Press associations

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is a confederation of journalists' associations from all around the world. At present it represents 130 organisations from 103 different countries, a total of some 450,000 journalists in all. The IFJ works globally to ensure good working conditions for journalists.

The International Press Association (API) groups together those foreign journalists who are active in Belgium, defending their interests vis-à-vis the Belgian authorities and international institutions headquartered in Brussels. This association has two kinds of members: 1) journalists based in Belgium but who are on the payroll of media headquartered abroad; and 2) journalists who work for media headquartered in Belgium and who are accredited to international organisations. At present it numbers roughly 450 members.

The General Association of Professional Journalists of Belgium (AGJPB/AVBB) and the federalised Flemish and French-speaking professional journalists' associations (VVJ and AJP) deal with cases involving such issues as labour law, social security and collective agreements, copyright, ethics, training and support for the press.
The offices of AJP, API, AGJPB-AVBB, IFJ and VVJ are all located in the Résidence Palace. Together they make up the service centre on the second floor, Journalists @ Your Service.
